"Base Metal Mediated Transformations for the Synthesis of Partially Fluorinated Alkenes"
Fluorochemicals play a vital role across a wide range of applications, including thermal management systems (such as air-conditioning, refrigeration, insulation, and data center cooling), pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and semiconductor manufacturing. The regulatory landscape for fluorochemicals has evolved significantly in response to growing environmental awareness and international cooperation—beginning with the elimination of ozone-depleting substances under the Montreal Protocol and continuing with the phasedown of high global warming potential (GWP) gases through the Kigali Amendment.
Arkema has continuously adapted to these changes through thoughtful process design and responsible product stewardship, driving innovation in both synthesis and manufacturing. In this presentation, we will explore the critical role of fluorochemicals in semiconductor manufacturing and introduce a novel base-metal catalyzed methodology for synthesizing partially fluorinated compounds with low GWP— offering potential alternatives for next-generation etch gases.
