Our research connects molecular reactivity and mechanisms, materials properties, and functions and applications, including sensing, coatings, and structural materials. We approach these problems through a triangular framework in which molecular design governs material properties, which in turn determine material performance and functionality, while performance and functionality provide feedback that guides the development of new chemistry and new materials. By integrating molecular synthesis, materials characterization, and mechanistic studies, our work establishes predictive structure–property–function relationships that enable the design of responsive and sustainable polymeric materials.
