Research Statement

We are a group interested in one of the most fundamental properties of chemistry, electron spin, and how it can be used to control intriguing phenomena at surfaces and interfaces.

Our work centers on the use and development of optical spectroscopy as a window into how electrons behave at interfaces. We develop new materials and molecular architectures for transmitting information via quantum processes, and work to build clearer frameworks for understanding spin-polarized electron transfer pathways in technologically relevant systems.

Biography

Prof. Arcidiacono attended Villanova University, where she majored in Chemistry and minored in Political Science. While at Villanova, she worked with Prof. Jared Paul to design, synthesize, and electrochemically characterize Ru-based anticancer prodrugs. As a third-year undergraduate, she took part in an NSF-REU with Prof. Shelley Claridge at Purdue University where she studied systems for amphiphilic templating of dsDNA. After her undergraduate studies, she attended Florida State University (FSU) where she worked in the laboratory of Prof. Ken Hanson to obtain her Ph. D. in Physical Chemistry. Her work was aimed at characterizing the structure and ultrafast dynamics of metal ion linked multilayers on metal oxide films. During her time at FSU, she also conducted research with Prof. Scott Saavedra at the University of Arizona, focusing on the structural determination of self-assemblies on thin films. Ashley then went on to join the lab of Prof. Sarah King at the University of Chicago as an Arnold O. Beckman Postdoctoral Fellow, where she worked on probing the ultrafast dynamics of charge/spin transfer at chiral transition metal dichalcogenide interfaces.
