Lehigh's Chemistry Department has two mass spectrometers.
Among these instruments is the Shimadzu QP Ultra 2010 GC-MS, a workhorse for the Synthetic Organic Chemists in the Department.
This GC-MS is capable of both Electron and Chemical Ionization and has a direct injection port, making it a versatile and powerful instrument for analysis.
A recent addition to the MS facility is the Shimadzu Benchtop MALDI-TOF 8020.
Despite it's small size, this MALDI is capable of analyzing molecules with MWs up to 350 kDa. It even gives isotopic resolution up to ~700 Da, as evidenced in the spectrum below.
This MALDI is used by all experimental chemists in the Department and has been a great addition to our instrumentation resources.
