The Honors in Chemistry is a great way for students to cap off their time at Lehigh by bringing together what they learn and accomplish over the course their undergratudate studies.

To earn Honors, students must complete a total of six (6) credit hours of research at the 300-level, write a report of their work, and present findings to a friendly 4-person committee. The full details are outlined in the Chemistry Honor Thesis Requirements and Timeline.

First, students need to collect the following information (about a year before you plan to graduate):

  • A three-faculty ad hoc committee
    • One of whom is the research adviser.
    • At most, one could be from outside the department or Lehigh.
    • The Undergraduate Affairs Committee will determine the final composition of the committee to ensure equity and appropriateness.
    • Please contact your advisor and the other committee members to ensure they agree to be on your committee
  • A proposal proposal of thesis project
    • 2-page maximum; following the provided template that is available as a word document (attached).
    • You should work with your research advisor to prepare the proposal

At least two semsters before you graduate you need to initiate an intent to participate docusign form.

During your last semester, you will turn in your report and present your findings to the committee (see timeline for specific deadlines).

During the spring semster, honors students will be recognized at a department’s undergraduate award ceremony during the spring semester of their senior year. The ceremony is tentatively scheduled for the first Monday of finals week each spring.
